| Charcoal Screen: |
Used as a placeholder for the
charcoal so it does come to direct contact
with the shisha. |
| Clay Bowl: |
Used as a placeholder for the shisha. Remember
to pack the shisha loosely. |
| Bowl Grommet: |
Keeps the bowl air tight. |
| Tray: |
Also refered to as an ash catcher which
is exactly what it does. |
| Shaft: |
This is the main part of the hookah. Smoke
travels from the bowl to the base by the way
of the shaft. |
| Hose Grommet: |
Keeps the hose airtight. |
| Air Valve: |
This is used to release the smoke out of
the base when it overfills. Blow softly into
the hose and you will see the smoke travel
of the valve. |
| Base Grommet: |
Keeps the glass base airtight. You can
wet the grommet so it slides into the glass
easier. |
| Glass Base: |
Chamber for the smoke. Fill it with water
so the shaft is about an inch deep in water. |
| Hose: |
Used to draw the smoke from the glass base
to its final destination. |

Acclimating the molasses
"Acclimating the molasses" basically means giving the molasses some time to get used to its
environment. We do this because the tobacco forms equilibrium with the moisture in the air.
When it is out of balance the juice becomes too runny, or the excess moisture in the air
dissolves all the flavors wrong. If you acclimate your tobacco, it allows the tobacco to reach
equilibrium with the air, making the smoke thicker and more flavorful. This is most especially
important with molasses containing nicotine, but flavor changes can be found in non-nicotine
tobaccos too. It is best to let the tobacco sit out in the environment it will be smoked in for at
least 3 hours prior to your smoking session. The idea of acclimating your molasses may not
sound realistic, but try it once and you will definitely notice a difference, in comparison to smoking
the molasses right out of the box.
Packing the bowl
After your molasses has been acclimated, you will be ready to start packing the bowl with your
acclimated molasses! First make sure your bowl is clean. Take a slightly damp paper towl and
clean the inside of the bowl of any old residue. After the bowl has been cleaned, take the
molasses and steadily sprinkle it into the bowl. For the most part, you want to pack it nice and
evenly. Remove any sticks or stems that you might find in the molasses as well because they act
as "place fillers" in the bowl and do not taste particularly well either. Pack the bowl just a little bit
above the top. The most common mishap when packing your bowl is packing the bowl too
tightly, putting in more molasses then the bowl should hold. Packing the bowl too tightly leads
to paralyzing the airflow of smoke through the body of the hookah. That leads to problems
inhaling, making it feel like there is a "clog." After the bowl has been filled with the right amount
of molasses, take a piece of foil which on average should be 5"x5" (size really depends on the
size of bowl you are using, but thats the standard size), and place it on top of the molasses and
make a nice tight seal with the foil around the stem of the bowl. So right now your bowl should
be covered with a piece of foil that has no holes in it. Next it's time to make the hole pattern.
Best Hole Pattern
This is an extremely important concept that many people disregard when setting up their
hookah. A lot of times, making a poor hole configuration on your bowl could lead to a lack of
taste, or a charcoal-like taste when you are smoking. What we want to do, is make a pattern
that will enable us to enjoy our molasses, and not gag from it. It is very important you find
something thin to poke the holes through. I like to use a safety pin, but if I can't find one, I'll
use an unwrapped metal paper clip. Anything that is thin, pointy, and at least 1.5" long will do. Start by punching thin holes along the outside of the bowl. When you push in, make sure you
push in as far as you can even through the molasses so that you will have healthy airflow in the
bowl. When you're done with the outside holes, move in a bit and start another circular
pattern. Do the same until your bowl looks similar to the one below, with the biggest hole
being in the center. The key is to have a lot of small holes, instead of having larger holes. Larger holes will burn the molasses too quickly, and will cause your bowl to get "kicked" quicker.
When you're done packing the bowl and punching in the holes, blow softly from the bottom of
the bowl just to make sure you have a nice air passage in your bowl. Packing the bowl is only
part of the challenge, the next is knowing how to manage your charcoal.
1. Fill the base of the Shisha / Hookah /
Nargile with water. Make sure you don't
fill it with too much water. The water level
should reach approximately 1 to 1 1/2 inches
above the bottom of the metal tube. Therefore
the tube is submerged in water.
2. Place long stainless steel tube
over the glass or crystal base. Make sure
it fits snugly and is airtight. There should
be a rubber stopper between the glass/crystal
base and the metal center piece.
3. Place the circular tray on top
of the Shisha / Hookah / Nargile metal pipe.
4. Attach the Clay / Metal bowl
to the top of the metal mid-section. Again
there should be a plastic grommet between
the metal mid-section and the Clay / Metal
bowl.
5. Place hose into the metal mid-section
once again with the plastic grommet making
sure the connection is air-tight.
6. Test that your setup is airtight
by placing your hand on top of the Shisha
/ Hookah / Nargile's bowl and then sucking
in through the hose. If everything is okay,
you should feel a pull at your hand and
see bubbles in the water. If either of these
two things don't happen, then in all likelihood,
you have air escaping from somewhere. Carefully
check to find the source.
7. If your setup is airtight, then
place some soaked tobacco in the bowl making
sure it is level with the rim of the Clay
/ Metal bowl. Make sure you sprinkle the
tobacco, packing it in so that the air flow
isn't restricted. Also don't let the tobacco
level reach over the bowl or overflow. To
decrease the harshness you can place foil
over the top of the bowl. Cut out a round
or square piece of foil about twice the
diameter of the bowl and place it over the
bowl making sure it is flat and air tight.
Then take a tooth pick or a sharp object
and punch tiny holes all along the top.
8. Go outside and light your self
lighting charcoal. Make sure you hold the
charcoal with the Shisha / Hookah / Nargile
clamps provided.
9. When lit bring the charcoal
inside, holding it with the clamps and place
it on top of the foil. For a longer smoke,
place the charcoal on the edge of the bowl
and work it around the outside. The center
of the bowl is that last place to be touched.
10. Gently pressing down on the
charcoal, suck in using the mouthpiece.
You should notice smoke building up inside
the base and eventually (after a few strong
puffs), you should feel the taste of the
tobacco in your mouth. It's important to
be patient and let the charcoal heat the
tobacco.
11. If you have gotten this far,
you are on your way. If you are having problems
getting setup, feel free to contact
us. We will definitely be able to help.
NOTE: Washing your Shisha
/ Hookah / Nargile after every use is highly
recommended, especially when changing flavors.
Some flavors are stronger than others and
the remains of its taste might still be
in the Shisha / Hookah / Nargile if not
cleaned. Brush the insides of the metal
mid-section with the cleaning kit brush.
Also, wash the the glass/crystal base after
each use with warm water. Discard any water
after each use. Do not run water through
the hose. Simply blow into your hose after
each use to get rid of residue build up.
